Biking Andalucia: the best cycling holidays in Andalucia

Useful information

Getting to Orgiva

A number of budget airlines fly to Malaga airport, including easyJet, which is about 2 hours drive from Orgiva. Ryanair have recently started offering cheap flights to Granada, which is even closer from London Stanstead and Luton.

We can arrange to meet you at either airport with transport suitable for carrying bikes. Alternatively, there are numerous car hire companies operating at the airport, who normally will supply a free roof rack if requested when making your booking.

We are happy to offer advice about getting the best value flights.

About the accommodation

Our 3 bedroom cortijo, which sleeps up to six, is set in 2 acres of grounds, with swimming pool, in a quiet area on the edge of Orgiva. We also have a fourth bedroom available on same site - please ask for details. The pool is normally only available between mid-April and mid-October.

The cortijo has full cooking facilities, safe bike storage and workshop facilities and is equipped with a TV, DVD player and washing machine.

Extra accommodation can be provided close by in Orgiva.

Food and drink

Breakfast supplies and complimentary beer/wine will be provided for weekly programme guests. On guided rides we supply a packed lunch.

Our accommodation is just 300 metres from the town of Orgiva, so guests may choose to either self-cater, using the nearby shops and supermarket or eat at the many bars and restaurants in the town.

New service: We now offer a filling and nutritious evening meal, with beer or wine, and sweet for 20€ per person.

Local weather

The area has probably the best climate in Europe for year round cycling.

October to February, normally mild to warm in the daytime 15 to 23 celsius and cool in the evenings after sunset. There is a small possibility of rain.

March to May, pleasant day time temperatures, 17 to 25 celsius, night time 8 to 13 celsius, with a small chance of rain.

June to September, day time temperatures 28 to 35 celsius, night time 15 to 20 celsius.

The temperatures may be 5 to 10 degrees less at 2000 metres altitude.

Other Activities

We can arrange these (and many other) activities on your behalf:

Please let us know your requirements when booking or contact us to discuss what is available.

Medical Insurance

For UK citizens, local hospitals recognise form E111 for medical treatment within Spain and is available from your local post office.

Bringing your own bike

Most riders prefer to bring their own bike, which is quite easy to do. Obtain a cardboard box from your local bike dealer, then simply deflate the tyres, lower the saddle, turn the handle bars and pedals in and use pipe insulation to protect the frame.

It is advisable to check with your airline or travel agent, as carriers have diferent rules about transporting boxed bikes. Some allow you to book your bike on in advance, normally for a fee, others carry bikes for free, but may not have space on the day.
