Biking Andalucia - the best mountain biking in Spain

Off-road ride profiles

Capileira, Poqueira Valley and Rio Del Torril Valley

Scenic 20 km transfer from Orgiva to Capileira which is at 1450 metres. After 2 km of easy climbing out of Capileira we take a left turn leaving the tarmac and head up the Poqueira Valley for 8 km on a jeep track to the hydroelectric power station. We climb out of the valley from 1700 metres to 2000 metres over 3 km on a rough track.

We then procede up the valley of the Rio Del Torril on technical single track, probably the most spectacular ride you have ever done, for 7 km. The views across and up the valley are amazing, featuring the Poqueira refugio and Mulhacen (highest peak in Spain 3498 metres). We now return on the other side of the valley on technical single track with little gradient contouring at around 2000 metres.

We begin the 3 km descent back to the hydroelectricity station on steep rocky single track, we proceed back to Capileira via sweeping, enjoyable single track route. After a break in Capileira for refreshments we begin our descent to Orgiva (from 1450 metres to 400 metres) via a wicked cocktail of urban technical routes through Bubion and Pampaneira and open single track, jeep track and some tarmac.

Total distance 40 km
Total climbing 700 metres
Total descending 1400 metres
Duration 5-6 hours
Exertion difficult
Technical grade difficult

Cañar to Soportujar

Another absolutely classic route. We can either bike on a mixture of tracks and tarmac the 7 km to Cañar, which at 1000 metres is 600 metres above Orgiva, or if you wish you can get a vehicle transfer to Cañar. Cañar is an attractive unspoilt village, here we can take a break and refill with water etc.

We thread our way out of the village onto pristine classic singletrack for 6km through breathtaking scenery, traversing the valley side, maintaining our height at 1000 metres to a silted up dam at the valley head. Here we can take our packed lunch, before we return on the other side of the valley, again on pristine classic singletrack for 6km through breathtaking scenery to the village Soportujar at 900metres, where we can stop in one of the pleasant bars for refreshments.

We go through the village (urban technical) then begin the steep but rideable descent on singletrack with switcbacks to Carataunas at 800 metres.

We descend again on technical singletrack to Bayacas, then a minor climb to traverse a ridge over 3 km distance. Here you will see a gulley that Steve Peat descended 5 years ago, which we are sure that you will be impressed by, followed by a quick blast to our house!

Total distance 30 km
Total climbing 700 metres
Total descending 800 metres
Duration 4-5 hours
Exertion difficult
Technical grade difficult

Please note these are just two saple ride profiles, we have many more and can taylor our routes to match your abilty and preference.
