Outside the Refugio Poquiera at 2500 metres
Join us on our unique and affordable Sierra Nevada, summer high level trip.
Our summer high altitude mountain biking programme will be running again between June and mid-September. We have run this highly popular programme every year since 2004 – see report.
Cycling at this altitude means we can avoid the worst of the heat and has the additional advantage of raising your red blood cell count, and therefore your fitness levels.
The majority of the rides will be at over 2000 metres altitude, culminating in a ride to the top of Pico Veleta – mainland Spain’s second highest mountain at 3400 metres (10,300 feet) – and a 3100metre (10,300 ft.) descent to Orgiva.
We will spend 2 nights at the Refugio Poqueira at 2,500 metres. This a very comfortable refiugo, with bar, restaurant, reading room, kitchen and sun terraces, with dormitory type bedrooms – a fantastic place to stay. The other nights will be spent at our base in Orgiva.
